Another year older

My birthday has come and gone. I'm now a 23 year old college graduate that is still delivering pizza. I'm looking for that big boy job, and I'm sure it'll come sooner or later.

Remington is getting HUGE

It still surprises me when I come home from work. I expect to see a puppy come around the corner, and instead it is this beast. He is only 6 months old and over 50lbs.

Best Date Night Ever

Sunday was my date night, which means Misty has to do whatever I want. We hopped on the ferry to Southport with no real plan. The ferry is only $5 and is a scenic little cruise for about half an hour. Once in Southport we parked downtown and started walking around looing at the little shops. We ended up at Cape Fear Resutraunt and Lounge. The shrimp was good and the view was better. After dinner we walked around downtown and ended up at the same place that my cousin Mark had his wedding reception. After looking around Misty commented that it would make for a pretty wedding, and I agree. We discuss it and we may end up getting married there. So we head back to the car and when we are just about to leave I see a girl in an antebellum style dress standing on the side of the road. I noticed a little sign next to her that said "Ghost Walk, 8pm." So we quickly found an ATM for some cash, parked, and met the girl where she was standing. After paying and exchanging pleasantries we started walking. It was a leisurely walk that was not more than a mile total. She told stories of historic buildings and other local history. She did a great job keeping us entertained. After the walk we had missed the last ferry so we drove the long way home.

We started with no plan and it ended up being the most fun we had had in a long time.

I'm back

I'm not sure why I go through phases where I completely forget to update this, but I'm back. There have been quite a few things going on, so I'll fill you in.

I graduated from East Carolina University with a Bachelors of Science degree in Industrial Distribution and Logistics with a minor in Business Administration. I'm the first Mathis to get a college degree and I'm proud of it.

I put a 2" body lift, 31x10.50 BF Goodrich All-Terrain tires, and black 15x8 wheels on my truck. I think it looks good and is fun on the beach too.

Misty and I got an apartment just south of Monkey Junction. It is close to the beach and just far enough out of town for my liking. We also got a puppy. His name is Remington and he is a black lab mix. We rescued him from an organization in town and he had kennel cough and mange. The kennel cough is all better and we are working on the mange. He is getting better every day, but still has a long ways to go.

More surfing

Big Chief, Corey and I got up late yesterday and found a little dive to eat. They had an amazing BBQ Cheeseburger. We drove down the beach looking for surf. It didn't seem good anywhere. We got all the way down to Sebastian Inlet without seeing anything. We ended up back at the same spot that we surfed yesterday and surfed for a few hours. Brad, Brennan, Julian, and Shane showed up a little while later to join us. When we got out we found that someone had stolen Shane's mom's camera bag. It had several camera lenses and her car keys in it. A cop let us try to slim jim it open, but that wasn't happening, so we had to wait for Triple A. We headed back to the hotel to get cleaned up before dinner. Soon after we got there Julian and Bradley showed up with Julian's new board. He went by The Longboard House and got a beautiful CJ Nelson model longboard.

Some local guy told us about this place to get good wings called Franky's Wings & Things. Great hot wings, weird blue cheese, and sweet tea that wasn't very sweet. When we got back we brought the boards up to the room, watched some of Another State of Mind, and then hit the bed.

Brennan just got put out of the contest, so we are going to go pick him up and go surf somewhere.

Florida Trip

Great so far. We left Wilmington leisurely yesterday around 10:30am. We loaded an enclosed trailer with the short boards and gear, put 4 longboards on top of the Suburban, got fuel and lunch and then hit the road. I drove the entire time. We stopped at the Jacksonville Beach Pier around 6:30pm for a quick surf. It was small but fun and Bradley almost got in a fight with a drunk guy. Then we packed up to head to Melbourne. We stopped at a Golden Corral for dinner and made it to the hotel around 1am.

This morning we got up late, around 11am, and headed to the beach. First we surfed at Canova Park. It had reef on the bottom so it was sketchy. It was hard to get out with rocky reef sticking up everywhere. Getting out was even harder. We got out after almost 2 hours and drove to the contest site at the Cocoa Beach Pier. The we headed south to the other end of Melbourne and surfed the boardwalk. The bottom their was much better. The waves were big and crumbling. Lots of fun. We got out around dark. Brennan, Bradley, Shane, and Julian went to a pizza place and Corey, Big Chief and I just hung around the truck. We slide over to The Longboard House. It was amazing. TONS of surfboards. They had a one-of-a-kind Rennie Yater Spoon with abalone inlay for $20,000. We talked to Randy Howell, who used to run Hot Wax Surf Shop and now works there, for a few minutes and I bought a new hat. We headed back to the hotel, dropped everyone else off and Big Chief and I drove around looking for a dinner spot. We ended up at a Denny's.

Now we're back at the hotel winding down. More surf tomorrow.

Heading to Florida

There is a surf contest is Cocoa Beach, FL this weekend. Bradley, Brennan, Shane, as well as other CB locals are going to surf in it. Corey and I are riding down with Big Chief and making a mini surf vacation out of it. We are leaving tomorrow morning and will be returning Sunday night.

I also ordered some new tires for my truck, as well as some other goodies, so stay tuned for that.

Another update

I've been busy with school for the past 2 weeks, but I definitely see a light at the end of the tunnel. I also finished up my metabolism study this morning with the final muscle biopsy. I should get my check in the next 2 weeks or so.

I just got some new SPY sunglasses but I'm not sure that I like them. I may sell them and get a different pair. I also ordered some new tires for my truck. 31x10.50 BF Goodrich All-Terrains. I'm excited to get them but I'm worried that I'll need to put a 2" body lift on it so that it won't rub. We are going to install them and go from there.

Next week I'm going on a little surf trip to Florida. Bradley, Shane, Brennan and others are surfing a contest in Cocoa Beach, so Corey and I are going to go down there with them to surf, hang out, and have a good time. We leave on Wednesday and get back Sunday.

Always get it in writing.

I've been in the same apartment for 4 years. My first least was from 8/06-7/07, so each lease after that was the same months for the following year. However this last year I never resigned the lease. As with most leases I assumed that this put me on a month to month plan. I wanted it this way so that I could move out in May of '10 and not have to pay rent for an empty apartment in June and July. I went to the office in January to confirm that this is how it would work. I was told that all I had to do was put in a 60 day notice and I could get out whenever I wanted. I was also told that if I left halfway through May I could get it prorated and only pay half of May's rent.

I just went over to the office to put in my 60 day notice, the same woman pulled out my lease and told me that I was responsible to pay the rent through July. I reminded her that I never resigned and that she herself told me that I could put in a 60 day notice whenever I wanted to. She started on this, "well technically yea....." stuff. She said that she would talk to the property manager and that he would most likely let me leave, but if not I would be responsible through 7/10.

I guess if they tell me no I'll just leave when I want to, quit paying rent, and tell them that if they have a problem I'll see them in court.

Back from spring break

I was home all last week for spring break. I worked all week, with a little bit of surfing thrown in (only 1 day to be exact). I did some resting and cashed in my massage gift card. I also did a little job scouting, which made me feel a little better about the number of places that exist for me to apply. Classes started today and I've only got about 2 months left of school. I've got to keep working, but after my midterms I feel like it may be downhill from here. I picked up my boots and I like them a lot more than I expected. They look great and are very comfortable. I got some saddle soap and conditioner/protector for it, so hopefully they will have a long happy life on my feet. Misty got us our Droid phones and they are amazing. We are having some trouble with them and may have to get replacements, but the abilities of these phones blows me away.

I started the exercise portion of the metabolism study today. I spent an hour on a stationary bike at 70% resistance. There were a few spots when I wasn't sure that I'd make the full hour.

Midterm Madness

I had 3 midterms today. 1 in Cost & Capital Analysis, got an 86. 1 in Financial Management, got a 74. One in Oceanography...I have no idea what I got on this one. I also had a quiz in C&C, a homework assignment and quiz in Quality, and a 2 page paper in Bussiness and Professional Communication. I knocked it all out and still had time for some XBOX.

I'm heading home tomorrow for Spring Break with a long list of things to do. I'm picking up my boots, getting a new DROID phone, changing Misty's mom's oil, surfing as much as possible, doing some photography, probably going shooting, and hopefully resting at some point as well.

Tuesday, March 2, 2010

I'm really starting to feel the pressure of my final semester at school. Midterms are this week and I've got 4, 3 of them I'm really worried about. The job hunt is going to have to go full force, and that scares the hell out of me. I'm really worried that I'm not going to be able to get a job. I'm pretty sure that I can pay my bills delivering pizza, but I'd really like to get my foot into the front door to the warehouse that is the supply chain.

After a long search I finally found a pair of boots that were acceptable. They weren't exactly what I wanted, but I'm not convinced that what I wanted doesn't exist. They also ended up costing me about double what I wanted. But, I figure they are Redwings and should last a good while.

This morning I dropped and stepped on my sunglasses. Let me explain something. I can't function without sunglasses. I'm going to have to buy a new pair soon. I have a 50% off coupon for a pair of SPYs, but that still puts me at spending $60 that I don't have.

I have been seriously neglecting this.

Over the past few months I have seriously neglected updating. Not many people read it, so I'm sure not many people care, but I'm going to try to keep it more up to date.

I am in my last semester of college. I'm taking 19 hours and keeping busy. I still have no idea what kind of job I'm going to get, but I'll be proud of the degree regardless. This past weekend Misty and I picked out our apartment. As long as they have something available and the rate doesn't go up, we will be moving in to Point South in May. The apartments are pretty new, the location is good, and as of now the price is right.

I've only surfed once in the past month. It has been cold and flat. Even my friends that live in Wilmington aren't going very much.

My manager at Dominos has moved to the Carolina Beach, so I moved down there with him. It is weird not always knowing where I am going, but so far I really like it.

Thats all I got for you now.
